This section of my blog will have occasionally daily updates of things that I have done that I have either enjoyed or found difficult to deal with.

Been a lovely day here in Harlech, spent some time down in Ynys enjoying the sunshine by the estuary, a lovely spot to sit and study.

The only sounds are the sheep and the birds with the occasional fly past of a plane from Llanbedr, you couldn’t ask for more.

Today I received my DJI Phantom 3 Professional Camera Drone, no chance to try and fly it today but got batteries charged and it’s all ready for my first flight

Surprisingly good weather today, had a chance to take the Phantom out for it’s first flight, took a while to get used to the controls. I did put on the propeller guards on to protect when crashing. Took my first video and photo’s, got some great shots of Glan Gors from some good heights, bit scary at times trying to keep the Phantom safe.

Took the drone out again in the afternoon, had some issues with the controls, the manual is useless. Will spend some time in a forum and on YouTube to learn what I can. I managed to break the propeller guards, glad I had them on but think they should be stronger, that said I enjoyed the experience of flying the drone very much.

Bad weather today made it difficult to get the Phantom out, but late afternoon the sun came out, the rain stopped and the wind dropped. Decided to take the Phanton down to Ynys. A scary decision as it was still windy Had a great time flying the drone, took loads of photo’s and some video. Learning to control the drone quite well, YouTube is a must if you want to learn the control options. Two batteries are not enough if you want to do some serious flying, I do have 2 more batteries coming tomorrow which will give me 4 batteries with a flying time of 80 mins.

It was so nice later and the batteries had recharged I decided to take the drone out again for another flight on Glan Gors. Got very adventurous, took the drone up a couple of hundred feet and flew it out across the Rugby field towards Harlech Castle. At one point I was distracted and lost sight of the drone, a very worrying few minutes while I used the visual output from the camera to guide the drone back to me, the light was fading which made it harder. Eventually I could hear the drone up high, I had kept it high as I couldn't see it for safety.

Kept the drone fairly close after that little scare, got lots of great photo’s and video including a nice sunset.

Weather not good so just went to Llanfrothen for coffee, got new Carbon Propellers, batteries and an extra charger today so now ready for some real good weather. Also got a protector for the camera when landing.

Well work has been crazy, but I have been out with the drone. Had a couple of real good day’s with it and have added a couple of new sections of photo’s. A day at an Open Day for a miniture railway glub was fun, cold but fun. Spent some time at Penrhryn Bridge, got some great photo’s.

So the association is relaunched, I’m not a member and perhaps they would like to choose now to comply with the Data Protection Act and remove the inaccurate attack on me that publishes my home address. Maybe Patrick Hughes would find  way to develop some integrity.

Well at last the weather here in Harlech is great summer weather. Spent the morning in Llandanwg before the tourists got up so I could fly my drone without issue. Got some great video and photo’s, while looking at the results the owner of Y Branwen asked me to do some arial shots of the pub, happy to do it and it gives me the chance of getting some great shots of the castle. I have been looking for a good place to launch for shots of the castle.
